The benefits of this microwave/convection combination is that it can cook your food quickly like a microwave and also brown your food with the convection feature of the oven. Another benefit is the reduced cooking time keeps you from heating up the inside of your RV compared to a regular oven.
A microwave cooks your food by heating the water and molecules in your food. It heats food quickly but isn’t good at browning or baking anything. Convection ovens use a fan to circulate hot air all around the food and that is why you can cook with lower temps and shorter periods of time. A standard oven heats from the bottom or top (broiler). This can be uneven cooking and takes longer but makes for better baking than the microwave.
This blended convenience of circulated hot air can provide fast work like the microwave and golden brown baked goods like the oven. Prices have come down to the point that we are seeing them come standard in many RVs. We hope you’ll take the time to experiment with yours and we think you’ll find you are quite happy with the results.
