We love to see the kids get started camping as soon as possible. The fresh air and relaxed atmosphere is good for them and for the parents, too. Plenty of parents bring babies who are only months old and they just have to do a little extra planning to make it a great experience.
Sleep
You won’t be able to bring their crib along with you but there are a lot of baby sleeping options available these days. You may even be able to borrow something from a friend or family member to try before you buy. As long as baby is in a bed with soft sides and perhaps provides a net to keep mosquitoes away, the little one will sleep like a – well, you know – a baby.
Eat
They won’t be eating your barbeque but you should be able to maintain their familiar diet while here. A bottle warmer can be plugged in and remains at the ready to heat the baby’s bottle up to just the right temperature and you won’t have to microwave it. Powdered formula is a helpful solution to keeping baby’s food fresh. You can make up bottles as you go and bring ice packs to keep bottles cold in your cooler.
Play
There are inexpensive baby seats on the market that are really handy. You can strap the mini-highchair to your picnic table and provide a stable seat for the baby to eat on and be entertained while you are moving around the campsite. You can bring a folding play pen or just lay a blanket on the ground for the little one to stretch out on. Be sure to pack sunscreen and re-apply it often. Their super soft baby skin is not used to the elements.
We want the whole family to be able to come camping with us and that means baby, too. We hope you’ll bring your little one to see us next year and we look forward to your stay.
